Old Crescent RFC is delighted to announce that John Toland has been named as Club Captain for the season 2023-24.

John started playing under 6s for Old Crescent with his brother Cillian, coached by his father Brian. He played the whole way through Underage Rugby until under 18s. During this time, the teams he played for won the Under 15s League, the Under 16s North Munster Open Cup and the Under 18.5’s North Munster Open Cup twice!

John played Junior and Senior Cup rugby with Castletroy College where he was coached by current Old Crescent Under 20s Coach Bernard King.
After leaving school he captained the Old Crescent Under 20s team which won the Donal Walsh Plate. During that season, John made his senior debut in the AIL against Ballymena. This will be his third season as part of the senior squad which also includes his brother Oisin.

Both sides of John’s family are very much involved with Old Crescent. His Dad, Brian captained the team in 1993/1994 and 2001/2002 and his Uncle Liam also played with the seniors for many years.

His Mom Niamh’s three brothers Ged, Kevin and Anthony O’Dwyer all played senior rugby with the club for many years and have been involved in Coaching and many other roles within the Club.
John is currently in his final year of college, studying financial maths in UL. He also works part-time in EBS Dooradoyle.
John is thrilled and honoured to be appointed Captain of Old Crescent and is looking forward to a very successful year for the Club, both on and off the pitch.
