International visitors emerge winners at the Heineken Light Pig n Porter Tag Rugby Festival at Old Crescent rugby grounds

International visiting team, Oz Tag Crocs, from Australia emerged winners of the Premier Division at the 16th annual Heineken Light Pig n Porter Tag Rugby Festival held last Saturday at the Old Crescent RFC grounds in Rosbrien. The Heineken Light Pig’n’Porter Tag Rugby Festival is Ireland’s largest and best tag rugby sporting festival hosted by Old Crescent RFC in association with TagRugby.ie and Rugby Travel Ireland.

120 tag teams from Ireland, the UK and Australia, took part with competitions shared between Rosbrien and the UL Sports Campus.  With close on 3,000 taggers and friends staying in Limerick for the weekend, the Festival provided a significant boost to the local hospitality industry.

Speaking at the prize giving, Tim Duggan, President of Old Crescent RFC, congratulated all the winners and said “Pig ‘n’ Porter would not be possible without the generous support of our main sponsor Heineken Light, and our associate sponsors, Bord na Mona, Keane’s Jewellers, Davis Printers and UL Sports Campus, and our media partner, the Limerick Post”.

He also thanked “our hard working team of volunteers who once again made sure that everyone had a super time. Our volunteers are at the heart of the Festival and their dedication has ensured the success of the Pig ‘n’ Porter Festival over the years”.

The Heineken Light Pig n Porter Tag Rugby Festival last Saturday was the final event in a trilogy of sporting and cultural events held at the Old Crescent grounds last weekend. On Thursday, 500 concert patrons were treated to a magical summer musical evening with stunning performances by international artists, Vladimir & Anton, and local singer and songwriter, Emma Langford.  This was followed on the Friday evening by international tag rugby competition between Irish and Australian, watched by a large crowd, with the home sides winning the six game test series.
